Unfortunately my stove had a very difficult time burning these pellets whichI purchesed at the Lowe's in Epping NH.
Clinkers and a full burn pot of heavy ash caused the stove to continually have a lazy flame. I woke up to an extinguished stove. which was a first for me. During the times of good burning, the heat output was nice.
I found a tremendous amount of fines along with bits and pieces of pellets through out the bag. The odor was a bit od as well. I was concerned that I really did not know what I was burning and decided to empty the remaining pellets in the hopper.
I run a englander Stove and found the pellets burn clean and very little ash is left
I have a Breckwell stove. It has no problem lighting the Nations Choice pellets, but they do not have the heat output of of other pellets. They do have a bit of an odd odor to them. I find them similar to other lower heat pellets such as Pennington. On the plus side, the stove glass stays cleaner than with other pellets.
bought these from HD past weekend as cheaper alternative to my stove shop brand, I normally burn Lignetics (blue print). Nation's Choice is a lot more ashy. with only 1/4 of the bag burned the inside of my stove was already covered with ash which looked like metal was covered with black velvet. Also noticed the burn port had a lot of carbon deposits. Once it starts burning, it provides good head but buyer beware, this would require more frequent cleaning and require pot cleaning after each day.
Stove is Harmon P35
We had never bought this brand before and thought we would try them. We found them very hard to ignite and low heat value. Our furnace kept coming on with it set at 64 all night long and had stove set on high....Very low flame in the morning and the main blower on it had shut down due to lack of heat. Have to run it on high all of the time to get any heat out of them. They almost smell musty and damp. We purchased them at Home Depot - Rutland Vermont and we definately not happy with them. Thanks for the chance to try them....
I have a Harman Accentra insert and had difficulty burning these pellets as well, mainly just getting them to ignite on a cold stove. Pellets would be spilling out of the burn pot before ignition. Basically it took 2 auto ignition cycles for the pellets to ignite. Thinking the problem may be related to cleaning, I thoroughly cleaned the stove, including the burn pot, but the problem continued. After swithcing to a different pellet brand, I no longer had the problem.
Once these pellets ignited they actually burned pretty well. Good heat and low ash.
I purchased a couple of bags of Nations Choice recently from the Londonderry, NH Home Depot to see if this pellet has improved for the 2011-12 heating season. Date code on the bag was 09/2011 so I know I was getting some of the newer bags. Unfortunately after burning them, I will have to largely agree with the Admin review.
I own a Quadrafire CB1200 insert and although the volume of ash was light after burning just one bag, this pellet left a large and thick clinker that covered the entire bottom of my burn pot. This definitely covered several of the combustion air holes.
I was hoping that for this trouble, I would at least get a decent amount of heat, but I was disappointed. I had to turn up my feed rate to twice the setting I was using to burn Green Teams and still the heat output was nothing to write home about.
I won't bother burning the second bad. This will most likely turn up as cage liner.
Disclaimer: I have a Mt Vernon AE (multi-fuel) which will burn almost anything.
I have burned quite a few of these in the past month. When I went shopping one time, these were all the local Lowes had (besides Infernos which I don't like at all). I decided to give them a try and they turned out not to be pretty good for the price. The ash amount is moderate, comparable to other "mid pack, premium" brands like Stove Chow, Fireside Ultra and NEWP. The heat output is pretty good and they give a decent burn time per bag. I noticed that the pellets in the batches I have had are on the long side. Fines quantity is good too (better than some others I have tried). I rate Nation's Choice comparable to Stove Chow for my stove and don't hesitate to buy them.
